When traveling to the Philippines, Cebu is often a top destination among tourists. It’s a popular choice because of the diverse attractions and activities that you can try. Aside from the numerous things to do, Cebu is a good choice because of its strategic location.
There are many ways to visit neighboring islands like Bohol, Ormoc, and Dumaguete. Here’s what you need to know to travel from Cebu to Dumaguete by ferry or bus.

George & Peter Lines Ferry Schedule
As of writing, the George and Peter Lines ferry is no longer operational. The schedule and prices listed are from previous years.
The Cebu to Dumaguete ferry operates only on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays. The departure time for all days is at 10 PM. The estimated arrival time is at 4 AM. There are four types of tickets that you can purchase from their office at Cebu’s Pier 2.
The return trip from Dumaguete to Cebu operates on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 11 PM. Expect to be in Cebu by 5 AM. The same ticket types are still available but the Cabin and Suite Classes are priced higher at 1,540 PHP and 2,590 PHP respectively. Meanwhile, the Economy and Tourist Class tickets retain the same price.
Economy Class
The Economy class ticket is the most affordable at 370 PHP per person. You will be sleeping at the open-air bunk beds. Remember to keep an eye on your belongings because this area can get quite busy.
Tourist Class
There’s also an air-conditioned sleeping area in the Tourist Class section. Of course, you’ll have to pay a bit more, tickets for this accommodation cost 720 PHP.
Cabin Class
Should you feel uncomfortable with the crowded sleeping areas, the Cabin class provides a more secluded dorm-type setup. There will only be a maximum of four people in the room. This will cost 1,295 PHP per head.
Suite Class
For the Suite class, you can choose to have a private room with twin beds or a single queen bed. It’s the priciest of all the ticket types but definitely the most comfortable option. The 2,560 PHP fee is already good for two people.
Cokaliong Shipping Lines Ferry Schedule
The Cebu to Dumaguete ferry by Cokaliong Shipping Lines departs every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday at 8:00 PM. Travel time is about 6-7 hours so you’ll arrive at around 2:00 AM of the next day.
To get back to Cebu, you can ride the ferry on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays at 11:59 PM. The expected time of arrival is at 6:00 AM. Prices for return tickets do not change drastically from the Cebu to Dumaguete route.
Just like George and Peter Lines, there are also several types of accommodations available. Economy class tickets are 480+ PHP while Tourist class tickets are at 680 PHP. The more expensive accommodations have variable prices depending on the vessel. The cabins range from 1,100+ PHP to 1,300+ PHP. Suite classrooms start at 2,820 PHP and can cost as much as 5,640 PHP.
Cebu to Dumaguete By Bus
Traveling by bus will take about six hours. It’s not that big of a difference in travel time compared to the ferry. However, the Cebu to Dumaguete bus schedule is more flexible. Albeit more uncomfortable, the fare is cheaper which is priced at only 400+ PHP.

To ride the Ceres bus bound for Dumaguete, you must go to the Cebu South Terminal. The bus will be leaving for Bato port where it will board a RORO ferry to Dumaguete. A fare of 300+ PHP will be collected for the bus while a fare of 80+ PHP will be collected for the RORO. While at sea, you can alight the bus and enjoy the breeze from the ship’s deck.

Getting back to Cebu, you will ride the Ceres bus at the Dumaguete bus terminal. The fare is still the same. In general, the morning trips to and from Dumaguete are less crowded so it’s not that difficult to get a seat. More people take the night trips though so it’d be better to arrive earlier at the terminal or to buy tickets beforehand.
