The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) is currently in talks with LGUs about allowing provincial bus routes to operate again. Provinces are still reluctant to welcome passengers from Metro Manila due to the city’s high number of COVID-19 cases. Ultimately, LGUs will have to deal with incoming passengers whether or not they test positive for the virus.

So far, only the provinces of Antique, Bataan, and Quirino have agreed to open its borders. The LTFRB aims to resume provincial bus routes from Metro Manila to nearby provinces. Preparations are already underway to make this possible. There is no definite date given for the resumption of operations for provincial buses. However, the LTFRB aims to have provincial buses running within the month.

Routes to and from Region III and Region IV are being prioritized since they are the closest to NCR. Region III provinces are Auroa, Bataan, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Tarlac, and Zambales while Region IV provinces are Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon Province.
