President Rodrigo Duterte addressed the nation last night about the new quarantine status of Metro Manila and its neighboring cities. Metro Manila, Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, and Rizal will revert back to Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine or MECQ from August 4 to 18.
The government has heard the pleas of medical workers for a “timeout” amid the rising COVID-19 cases. As many as 100 medical groups have asked for stricter quarantine restrictions to help slow down the rate of infection. The total number of coronavirus cases is now at 103,185, with 5,032 new cases confirmed.
According to the DOTr, here are the allowed forms of transportation during MECQ:
Allowed to Operate
- public shuttle for frontliners
- public shuttle for allowed industries
- rented or private shuttle with 50% seating capacity and LTFRB special permit
- private vehicle in permitted sectors (only two persons per row)
- bicycle motorcycle e scooter
Not Allowed to Operate
- Bus
- Jeep
- Taxi
- TNVS
- Tricycles (but with exceptions depending on guidelines set by DILG and LGU)
- PNR LRT-1 LRT-2 MRT-3
